If you are using Google Chrome on a mid range laptop or netbook, then you must have noticed that sometime Chrome consumes a considerable amount of your computer’s processing power and memory, which ultimately slows down your browsing. This usually happens when you left a lots of tab open, but it may also happen due to some other reasons which I will discuss today.
One of the great features of Chrome is the availability of thousands of Extensions. But It doesn’t mean that you have to install all of them. Do you know that each extension consumes certain amount of your computer’s processing power. So less the number of extensions you will have, the faster your chrome will be. You can check how much RAM and CPU is using by a particular extension by using Chrome’s inbuilt Task-Manager. Just press Shift+Esc within your chrome browser to bring up the Task Manager.
Now If you find any extension which is not so important but using a huge amount of memory and CPU then you should uninstall that extension. In this way you can recover a huge considerable amount of your computer’s processing power without sacrificing the usability of your browser.
Now we will see how to disable unnecessary plugins in Google Chrome to improve it’s performance. Whenever you install some particular software such as “Microsoft Office”, “Windows Live essentials” etc, they use to install some plugins for your browser. These plugins are useful which increases your browser’s functionality but if you don’t want those extra functionality then you can safely disable them to increase your browser’s performance.
First open your Chrome’s Option page by clicking the “Wrench” icon and then clicking “Options”. In the “Options” window navigate to the “Under the Hood” tab where you will have to click the “Content Settings” button.
Now go to the “Plug-Ins” section and click “Disable Individual Plug-Ins” link. In that window click the “Disable” option against all the plug-ins which you think is unnecessary.
After following these steps, your chrome browser will become much light-weight and become much faster. that’s it…happy browsing…
